New Mexico whitewater, Rio Grande

Taos county, Lobatos Bridge Colorado to Lee Trail section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     24 miles
This stretch of Rio Grande in New Mexico is 24 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The wonderful Taos County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Rio Grande beats anything. The put-in location is a short drive from Taos, as you can see on the road map further down. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you
make reservations in advance you're all set. The average New Mexico whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that rivers in this state are not as hard
as elsewhere. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. For all you camping people there are
campgrounds nearby.
