This section has two very different parts so be careful. Says Anonymous
Not for beginning boaters! Says Cullen Hallmark
Racecourse section of the RG: Local favorite. III - III+, depending on flows. Usually peaks around Mother's Day, but runnable for most of the year. Can be crowded on weekends and holidays. Kayakers usually put in at Quartzite (below Pilar) and take out at Souse Hole, or at County Line (well above Embudo |
Station). Water above and below those points is slower. The Rio Pueblo is Class V Says Cullen Hallmark
The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those
| in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Taos, as you can see on the road map further down. The to Taos Junction Bridge stretch of Rio Pueblo de Taos in New Mexico is 3.5 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The to Taos Junction Bridge section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This stretch | |
|
is short so no need to bring snacks. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might have
to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either
way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: There are good sites to explore along the Devisadero Peak Loop Trail, and during your journey here you'll meet some people from Taos for sure.
