The put-in is not too far from Albany-Schenectady-Troy, as you can see on the road map further down. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The nature scenery of     New York and the water flowing gracefully down Basic Creek make the trip here worthwhile. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Swartout Road Bridge to Freehold section is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
