  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The scenic beauty of New York and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Utica-Rome, there's a road
    map further down the page with more info on that. There's camping available near Black River. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This
stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The Enos to Route 72 stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. This stretch of Black River in New York is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.

Going for a hike along the Forty Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. Pixley Falls State Park is a wonderful location to visit, and you'll meet a lot of people from Forestport here. This is a great river. A tour to Black River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Crandall Falls. Have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Stone Dam Trail. For the duration of the warm months highs here at Black River reach the 70's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's, and nighttime lows through the winter for Black River tend to be in the 0's.
