The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Jamestown-Dunkirk-Fredonia. The wonderful New York scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Chautauqua Creek make the trip here worthwhile. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. This section of Chautauqua   Creek is 14.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too.
