New York whitewater, Delaware River - East Branch

Delaware county, Halcottsville to Margaretville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     5 miles
This section of Delaware River - East Branch is 5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Whitewater paddling here in the Catskill Mountains is a great
experience. If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The natural beauty of Delaware County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Briefly about the general area:
There is a fine hiking trail close to Delaware River - East Branch called the Seager West Branch Trail, and Delaware River - East Branch is close to Hubbell Hill Hollow which is without doubt worth going to. Man, is there a lot of amusing stuff to do in the Catskill Mountains. You can never get enough of the fine skiing at Ski Plattekill; if you're stopping by from New Kingston, you won't be the only one.
