  If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The Route 296 bridge to Jewett Center section of East Kill River in Greene County is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Great
    exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The put-in is not too far from Kingston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty
of New York and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The Route 296 bridge to Jewett Center stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Lodging is available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. When you're paddling down a Catskill Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.  
This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip.

Briefly about the general area:
Windham Mountain has perfect slopes and a friendly staff, and hiking along the Willow Trail is magnificent fun. And that's not all there is to do here in the Catskill Mountains. At East Kill River you always meet someone from Ashland, and do take a hike on the Spruceton Trail. At this river you will always have a good time. East Kill River is a good place of common rain. Throughout May this area sees the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summer at East Kill River comes with high temperatures in the 70's.
