The scenic beauty of New York and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river,     but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. There's camping available near Esopus Creek. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Whitewater paddling here in the Catskill Mountains is a great experience. This stretch of Esopus Creek   in New York is 17 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well stop at Cross Mountain Hollow, and don't leave Esopus Creek without first going for a hike along the Willow Trail. Lots of people from Phoenicia come to Esopus Creek, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Belleayre. This is such a wonderful river. Go for a hike on the Phoenicia Trail. Summertime at Esopus Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 70's.
