New York whitewater, Esopus Creek

Ulster county, Glenerie Falls to Saugerties section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-IV(V)     7 miles

Where exactly do you Put In? It is very steep along the creek, and unless you can Put In above the Falls in proximity to a camp that is there I am wondering where else. You could possibly put in further up the creek and have a longer run to Saugerties. I am assuming you take out at the beach near the bridge in Saugerties. Says Nora Budziak

The starting location is a reasonable drive from Kingston, as you can see on the road map
further down. This stretch of Esopus Creek in Ulster County is 7 miles long and is a class II-IV(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available
very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The nature scenery
of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. When you're paddling down a Catskill Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon.

Briefly about the general area:
When you're here at Esopus Creek it's always fun to pop by Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park, and at Esopus Creek you always meet someone from Mount Marion.
