Says Jon This section of Fish Creek - East Branch is 9.4 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of New York and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of     rivers in this state are not easy. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're coming from Utica-Rome it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Point Rock to Taberg section is one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that   around here. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. Briefly about the general area: A visit to Verona Beach State Park when you're here at Fish Creek - East Branch is a wonderful idea, and popping by Fort Stanwix National Monument is just something you need to do if you haven't yet. This is a popular place for people from Taberg, and a trip to Delta Lake State Park when you're here is never a bad idea. This is a really good river. Throughout the warm days of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Fish Creek - East Branch.
