New York whitewater, Little Black Creek Herkimer Oneida county, Hughes Road to Black River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-V     5.5 miles   This stretch of Little Black Creek in New York is 5.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V section. The beautiful scenery of Herkimer/ Oneida County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Utica-Rome it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle,     it's perfect for a one day trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The Hughes Road to Black River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Whitewater paddling here in the Adirondack Mountains is a great experience. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the   great campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: While you're here at Little Black Creek you can take a hike along the Forty Mountain Trail; during your journey here you'll meet some folks from Forestport for sure. So much cool stuff to do in the Adirondack Mountains, not sufficient time. Going for a hike along the Stone Dam Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. The high level of precipitation makes Little Black Creek a rather wet location.
