New York whitewater, Mill Brook

Ulster Delaware county, Belle Ayr to Grant Mills section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-IV     3.4 miles
This section of Mill Brook in Ulster/ Delaware County is 3.4 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Ulster/ Delaware County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Mill Brook will make you feel great. The sections for whitewater
rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The Belle Ayr to Grant Mills section is
one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The wild scenery of the Catskill Mountains is
great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Briefly about the general area:
Go for a hike on the Seager West Branch Trail, and what would winter be without some skiing at Belleayre. If you want a wonderful time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Catskill Mountains. At Mill Brook you always meet someone from Margaretville. For the period of the long summer days at Mill Brook temperatures are generally in the 70's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's.
