New York whitewater, Mohawk River

Albany Saratoga county, Cohoes Falls to Hudson River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-IV(V+)     3 miles
The starting location is a short drive from Albany-Schenectady-Troy, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of New York and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons
to come. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large
number of paddling spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This stretch of Mohawk River is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV(V+) section by American Whitewater. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Mohawk River without first paying a visit to Cohoes Falls; you're sure to stumble upon some cheerful people from Cohoes here. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 60's. Highs all through the wintertime are usually in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Mohawk River.
