  The starting location is a reasonable drive from Oneonta, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Platte Kill River in Delaware County is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The wild scenery of the Catskill Mountains is great. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to
    be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Some people prefer
whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The DAvenue Taylor's Farm stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The scenic beauty of Delaware County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. You might have to settle for a  
hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.

Briefly about the general area:
If you're popping by Platte Kill River from New Kingston, you won't be the only one; a good place is Weaver Hollow. Having a good time in the Catskill Mountains is painless. It's always magnificent to visit Canada Falls; the skiing at Ski Plattekill is great. Coming to this river is always a good idea. The high level of rainfall makes Platte Kill River a pretty wet spot. The wettest month of the year is regularly May, that's the one that rains the most; February meanwhile is the driest month.
