  If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The wonderful New York scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting
    a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The campgrounds here at Plattekill Creek are pretty good. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. This section
of Plattekill Creek is 2 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The river winds through the Catskill Mountains and you get great scenery. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if  
you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
Everybody nearby loves skiing at Hunter Mountain; you can have a nice hiking adventure along the Willow Trail. But wait, there's more enjoyable things to do in the Catskill Mountains. You'll meet a lot of folks from Palenville here, and a good place to pop by is Plattekill Clove. This river is so good. While you're here at Plattekill Creek you can take a hike along the Spruceton Trail. An average amount of rain falls at Plattekill Creek. May is the wettest month with most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
