  The put-in is not too far from Albany-Schenectady-Troy, as you can see on the road map further down. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The wonderful Rensselaer County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. Lodging is available
    near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Eagle Mills to Waterfall stretch is just one of them. A good workout
and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The Eagle Mills to Waterfall stretch of Poesten Kill River is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V+ section of whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This stretch is short  
so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over.

Briefly about the general area:
Peebles Island State Park is a nice location to have a look at on a delightful day; the nice folks of Troy like to hang out nearby. You certainly ought to check out Grafton Lakes State Park since you're here at Poesten Kill River. The annual precipitation here at Poesten Kill River is about average. The month of June is the wettest with most of the rain; February on the other hand is the driest. Summertime at Poesten Kill River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's.
