The wonderful New York scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch of     Raquette River in Franklin County is 1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. This is an extremely short stretch so no need to bring snacks. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The campgrounds here at Raquette River are pretty good. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find   a large number of good rivers. Briefly about the general area: You're sure to bump into some smiling people from Potsdam here, and a trip to Higley Flow State Park is a great idea.
