New York whitewater, Rondout Creek Ulster Sullivan county, Buttermilk Falls Brook to Rondout section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     8.5 miles   The nature scenery of Ulster/ Sullivan County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The Buttermilk Falls Brook to Rondout stretch of Rondout Creek is 8.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your     car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind   that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The Catskill Mountains scenery is wonderful. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Minnewaska State Park Preserve is a wonderful location to have a look at; there's tremendous hiking along the Willow Trail. Be careful coming to the Catskill Mountains, you might not ever wanna return home again. You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Hunter Mountain since you're here. You'll meet a lot of folks from Kingston here, and don't leave Rondout Creek without first going for a hike along the Kanape Jeep Trail.
