New York whitewater, Salmon Creek

Tompkins county, Ludlowville Falls to Cayuga Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     2 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The scenic beauty of Tompkins County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. If you're a camper you
can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good
walking shoes. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Ludlowville Falls to Cayuga Lake stretch is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The Ludlowville Falls to Cayuga Lake section of Salmon Creek is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Ithaca, please
print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
