CLASS II-V     5.5 miles
The put-in location is a short drive from Kingston, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Ulster County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Whitewater paddling here in the Catskill Mountains is a great experience.
The Meads Mountain Road bridge to Chestnut Hill Road section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Meads Mountain Road bridge
to Chestnut Hill Road section of Saw Kill River is 5.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The average
New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy.

Briefly about the general area:
The Willow Trail offers hiking at its best; hey, Gotta ski right? Hunter Mountain is a magnificent spot to do that. And that's not everything there is to do here in the Catskill Mountains. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Phoenicia Trail, and if you're going to from Woodstock, you won't be the only one. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure.
