  This stretch of Shingle Kill River in Greene County is 8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV(V+) section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Greene County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here
    are not very forgiving. There's camping available near Shingle Kill River. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. There
are no other stretches to paddle along Shingle Kill River than the Round Top to Catskill Creek stretch. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater paddling here in the Catskill Mountains is a great experience. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kingston. This section is long enough to enjoy  
a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.

Briefly about the general area:
Hunter Mountain has pleasant slopes and a friendly staff, and the Spruceton Trail is a splendid hiking trail nearby. Having a splendid time in the Catskill Mountains is painless. People from Round Top love to come to Shingle Kill River. From a rainfall point of view Shingle Kill River is a quite common place. May is the month that gets the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
