  The starting point is not too far from Malone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm,
    so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This stretch of St. Regis River - Middle Branch in New York is 7.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V+
section. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Route 458 to St Regis Falls section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,  
either way this area has a large number of paddling places.
