If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the starting location. This section of Thorpe Brook in New York is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V+ section. Great exercise and just being out on the river     for a while are great reasons to come. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Thorpe Brook are pretty good. The wonderful Greene County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Whitewater paddling here in the Catskill Mountains is a great experience. This is the only paddling stretch along Thorpe Brook. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Thorpe Brook without   first going for a hike along the Spruceton Trail. You're sure to run into some friendly people from East Durham here; you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Windham Mountain while you're here. Summertime highs at Thorpe Brook regularly tend to be in the 70's while night lows are regularly in the 50's.
