New York whitewater, Vly Creek Delaware Greene county, Elk Creek Road bridge to Lake Switzerland section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     3.5 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This stretch of Vly Creek in Delaware/ Greene County is 3.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The Catskill Mountains scenery is wonderful. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if     you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There's camping available near Vly Creek. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The wonderful Delaware/ Greene County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Vly Creek have people coming here. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The put-in location is a short drive from Kingston, as you can see on the road map further down. This is one   of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Briefly about the general area: During your trip to Vly Creek you'll meet some people from Fleischmanns for sure. Mine Kill State Park is a magnificent spot, and hiking along the Seager West Branch Trail is pleasant fun. This is such a wonderful river. Belleayre has great slopes and a friendly staff. Summertime highs at Vly Creek ordinarily tend to be in the 70's while overnight lows are usually in the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's; during the dark hours in the winter at Vly Creek temperatures plunge to the 0's.
