New York whitewater, Wallkill River

Orange Ulster county, Walden to mouth section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     30 miles
The natural beauty of Orange/ Ulster County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Wallkill River is 30 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Now this is a pretty long section,
so better bring your camping gear along. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kingston, there's a road map further down the page with more info on
that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Walden to mouth section is one of them. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
