New York whitewater, West Creek

Schoharie county, Bridge Close to Hyndsville to Route 7 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-III     5 miles

11-01-09 we did this yesterday for the first time. It was a wild ride with non-stop maneuvering, got very wet!I recommend wearing helmets. Says Deb

The put-in location is a short drive from Amsterdam, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Schoharie County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The average New York whitewater rafting or
kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. This is not
the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The Bridge Close to Hyndsville to Route 7 stretch of West Creek in New York is 5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling
spots. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
