New York whitewater, West Kill River

Schoharie county, Betty Brock junction to Route 30 b section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-V+     4.3 miles

Just a word of advice, discourage people from going past the ''out'' point, even though it looks like it spills nicely into the  Schoharie. I live across the street, and there are two 10+ foot falls right past the ''out'' point on this map. Says Nick R

The put-in is not too far from Amsterdam, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Schoharie County and the playfulness
of the water beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Great
exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The river winds through the Catskill Mountains and you get great scenery. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Betty Brock
junction to Route 30 b stretch of West Kill River is 4.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V+ section. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Betty Brock junction to Route 30 b section is just one of them. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip.

Briefly about the general area:
You definitely ought to explore Mine Kill State Park since you're here at West Kill River, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Ski Plattekill.
