New York whitewater, Woodhull Creek Herkimer Oneida county, Chub Pond to Horton Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-V     10 miles   The starting location is a reasonable drive from Utica-Rome, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The Chub Pond to Horton Road section of Woodhull Creek in Herkimer/ Oneida County is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for     a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The scenic beauty of New York and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The beauty   of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area: Pixley Falls State Park is a good place to stretch your legs a bit, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Stone Dam Trail. So much entertaining stuff to do here in the Adirondack Mountains, too nice to be true. This is a popular place for people from Forestport; if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Forty Mountain Trail. This is a really good river.
