New York whitewater, Woodland Creek Ulster county, Woodland Valley Campground to Esopus River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV     5.2 miles   The Woodland Valley Campground to Esopus River section of Woodland Creek is 5.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The starting point is not too far from Kingston, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nature scenery of New York and the water flowing gracefully down Woodland Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The sections for whitewater     rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Woodland Valley Campground to Esopus River section is one of them. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here.   The river winds through the Catskill Mountains and you get great scenery. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: The good people of Phoenicia like to hang out close by, and Woodland Creek is close to Woodland Valley which is without doubt worth a visit. All year is a nice time in the Catskill Mountains if you like the outdoors. Head up to Hunter Mountain and strap some skis to your feet, and the Phoenicia Trail is a magnificent hiking trail close by. This river is a wonderful place to visit.
