North Carolina whitewater, Big Creek Stokes county, Forrest Road to Lynchburg Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III(IV)     3.5 miles   The Forrest Road to Lynchburg Road stretch of Big Creek is 3.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III(IV) section. If you're coming from Winston-Salem it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and     paddle. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Forrest Road to Lynchburg Road stretch is one of them. This is a bit of a short stretch   so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Briefly about the general area: Everybody loves Pilot Mountain State Park, and do take a hike on the Cascade Trail. Big Creek is a place with many visitors from Westfield; why not take a refreshing hike along the Moores Knob Trail. This is such a fun river. Hanging Rock State Park is a good location. Big Creek gets a good deal of water. The month with most of the rain is July; January is the month with the least moisture. Summertime highs at Big Creek generally tend to be in the 80's with night lows in the 60's.
