The starting point is not too far from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. This stretch of Boone Fork is 4.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V+) section by American Whitewater. |
This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The nature scenery of North Carolina and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. A bit of exercise and spending
| some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip.

Mountain is a wonderful local ski area; the Yancey Ridge Trail is a great hiking trail close by. There are plenty of folks from Boone here at Boone Fork, and if you're here, you might as well stop by Young Hollow. This river
is so wonderful. If the weather is pleasant here at Boone Fork, you can go for a hike along the Daniel Boone Scout Trail. At Boone Fork all through the summer months highs are in the 70's; during summer nights temperatures
are in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and night lows at Boone Fork all through the winter usually fall into the 10's.
