North Carolina whitewater, Buckhorn Creek

Chatham county, Highway 42 to Buckhorn Dam Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I(II)     3 miles
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very
popular destination. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The starting location is a short drive from Sanford, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Highway 42 to Buckhorn Dam Road stretch of Buckhorn Creek in North Carolina is 3 miles long and is a class I(II) section of whitewater
according to American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
A trip to Buckhorn Creek wouldn’t be complete without a spree to close by Jordan Lake State Park, and there are plenty of people from Broadway here. Raven Rock State Park is worth taking a look at if you're at Buckhorn Creek, and you can go for a hike on the Lanier Falls Trail. This river has it all. Don't leave Buckhorn Creek without first going for a hike along the Campbell Creek Loop. The high level of precipitation makes Buckhorn Creek a reasonably wet spot.
