The starting location is a reasonable drive from Dunn, as you can see on the road map further down. The Avents Ferry to Erwin stretch of Cape Fear is 24 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section.     Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your   sleeping bag. Briefly about the general area: There's glorious hiking along the Group Camp Trail, and lots of folks from Lillington come here. A spree to Raven Rock State Park when you're here at Cape Fear is a splendid idea, and the Little Creek Loop Trail offers hiking at its best. This river is so great. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Cape Fear, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. Highs during the winter are mostly in the 40's; after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Cape Fear drop into the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Cape Fear a wet spot.
