This stretch of Cartoogechaye River in North Carolina is 2.75 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II(III) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. This is a pretty short section so no     need to bring snacks. The starting point is not too far from Seneca, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. Cartoogechaye River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Mount Hope Church to Louisa Chapel Road stretch is the only one. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming   from far and near. Briefly about the general area: Everybody nearby loves skiing at Scaly Mountain, and you could always discover Windy Gap. Now, you may assume that's loads but there's even more cool things to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A spree to Nantahala National Forest when you're here at Cartoogechaye River is never a bad idea; Cartoogechaye River is right by the Gage Trail. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. Black Rock Mountain State Park is a great spot to have a look at on a gorgeous day; do take a hike on the Stewart Trail. Cartoogechaye River is not far at all from Franklin.
