This section of Cheoah River is 7.1 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier     to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. The Grocery Store to Calderwood Lake Boat Launch section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby   campground. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Knoxville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Briefly about the general area: A good location to stop by close to Cheoah River is Sam Cove, and Cheoah River is not far at all from Robbinsville. Yeah, come up here to the Great Smoky Mountains for a magnificent time. The Long Hungry Ridge Trail offers hiking at its best, and Cheoah River is right by the Big Stack Gap Branch Trail.
