North Carolina whitewater, Cullasaja River Macon county, Peaceful Cove Road to Fulton Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     3.5 miles   This section of Cullasaja River is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Seneca it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting     or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The Peaceful Cove Road to Fulton Road section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The nature scenery of Macon County and the cool fresh water   beats anything. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: A day on the slopes of Scaly Mountain is just what you need, and on a delightful day you can take a hike along the Gage Trail. If you want a delightful time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Don't leave Cullasaja River without visiting Black Rock Mountain State Park, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Shortoff Mountain Trail. A river like this is too good to miss.
