The Route 89 to Route 1652 section of Dan River in North Carolina is 10.4 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section     by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Route 89 to Route 1652 section is just one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not   pack your camp stove too. The nature scenery of North Carolina and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Hanging Rock Trail; you'll meet a lot of folks from Danbury here. Dan River is near Hanging Rock State Park which is a charming spot, and there's good hiking along the Cascade Trail. This river is so wonderful. All through the days of summer highs here at Dan River get into the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 60's. For the period of the winter the highs are usually in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Dan River.
