North Carolina whitewater, Dan River Stokes county, Route 1652 to North Carolina Route 772 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     17.8 miles   Hwy 772 access as been roped off with No-Trespassing signs. This access is used a lot during the summer months, but evidently it is private property or someone is confused. Thought I'd let you know this since it's only a few miles from my house. That's a nice place to get in the river, but evidently somebody don't like the general public to use it. The wonderful Stokes County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Route 1652 to North Carolina Route 772 section is just one of many. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large   number of good rivers. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. Briefly about the general area: Dan River is right by the Cascade Trail, and when you're here it's always fun to go to Hanging Rock State Park.
