North Carolina whitewater, Deep River
Moore
county,
North Carolina Route 22 to Route 1006 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II 9.5 miles

I paddled this section on Memorial Day 2013. It was a quiet day on the river. This section has a couple class I/II rapids mostly flat water. The gauge at no cure had the water level at 2.5 to start the day an 2.0 at the end. This level was fine, not too shallow where we had to get out of the boats at all. The put in and take outs are really difficult and covered in poison Ivey. No wonder not many people paddle this section. It took us about |
5 hours to paddle. Says Daniel Hunt
This stretch of Deep River is 9.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The nature scenery of North Carolina and the cool fresh
| water will make you feel great. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There's camping available near Deep River. Whether you're whitewater rafting | |

or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The put-in is not too far from Southern Pines, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking
spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy.
Briefly about the general area: There are
plenty of people from Bennett here at Deep River. Deep River typically gets much rainfall. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and November on the other hand is the driest.
