  If you're coming from Sanford it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Chatham County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The US Route 15/501 Bridge to US Route 1 Bridge section of Deep River in North Carolina is 7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a
    class I-II section of whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are a few other sections in this
river system that can be paddled as well. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers in this state are  
not very demanding. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.

Briefly about the general area:
If you're popping by Deep River from Moncure, you won't be the only one; Jordan Lake State Park is a good site to stop by. Near Deep River you stumble on the Lanier Falls Trail which is a nice hiking trail. A lot of rainfall falls at Deep River. During the month of May you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is September. Throughout the summertime months, highs usually are in the 80's at Deep River.
