North Carolina whitewater, Fires Creek

Clay county, Mule Flats to Arch Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other
states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This
is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. If you're coming from Cornelia it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Mule Flats to Arch Bridge section is one of them. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience.
