Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. No matter if you're whitewater     rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The starting location is a short drive from Greeneville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. The Barnard to Hot Springs stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The nature scenery of Transylvania/ Henderson/ Buncombe/ Madison County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river   if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: If the weather is splendid here at French Broad River, you can go for a hike along the Paint Creek Trail, and you're sure to encounter some great people from Marshall here. Just can't get enough of the Great Smoky Mountains. While you're here at French Broad River you can take a hike along the Little Paint Creek Trail, and a delightful spot is Windy Gap. This river is a great place to visit. French Broad River is a wet location that gets lots of precipitation.
