This stretch of Green River in Polk County is 17.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling
places. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. There are so many sections to paddle
in this river system, the North Carolina Route 9 below Lake Adger Dam to North Carolina Route 1005 section is just one of many. The beautiful scenery of Polk County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The river winds through the Blue
Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag.
