The Route 1545 to US Route 15-501 section of Haw River in Chatham County is 7.5 miles long and is a class I-II(III) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Durham, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. There's camping available near Haw River. |
This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is
| often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.

Lake State Park. Haw River gets much water. Most of the rain falls during July; the driest month is April. Through the summer months highs here at Haw River reach the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures sink
down into the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are regularly in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Haw River temperatures plunge to the 20's.
