  The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The put-in location is a short
    drive from Durham, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section of Haw River in North Carolina is 1 miles long and
has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway 64 to Jordan Reservoir stretch is just one of many. This section is very short so better bring some good walking shoes. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing  
to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
Haw River is not far at all from Pittsboro, and visiting Jordan Lake State Park is a pleasant thing to do. At Haw River through the warm months highs are in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Haw River. The high level of rain makes Haw River a relatively wet location. The month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and September meanwhile is the driest month.
