  The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cornelia, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Hiawassee River in Clay/Cherokee County is 18.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a large
    number of rivers in this state are quite easy. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay
the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Hayesville to US Route 64 section is one of them. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. For all you camping  
people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people.

Briefly about the general area:
While staying at Hiawassee River you could always look at Henson Cove, and you can have a glorious hiking adventure along the CHoga Trail. Having a glorious time in the Great Smoky Mountains is simple. Hiawassee River is a location with many visitors from Brasstown, and do take a hike on the Arkaquah Trail.
