The starting location is a reasonable drive from Newport, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Haywood County and the water flowing gracefully down Hurricane Creek have people coming here. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the SR 1336 to Pigeon River section is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might |
end up sleeping in your car. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
| campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: If the weather is great here at Hurricane Creek, you can go for a hike along the Asbury Trail, and the slopes of Cataloochee are so inviting nobody can
resist. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Great Smoky Mountains. On a splendid day at Hurricane Creek you can take a hike along the Big Branch Trail, and close by you discover good sites like Rathbone Cove. This river
is a wonderful place to visit. There are plenty of people from Hartford here at Hurricane Creek. Hurricane Creek usually gets a good deal of rainfall.
