North Carolina whitewater, Little River Durham county, Johnson U. to US Route 501 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-IV     1.5 miles   This section of Little River in Durham County is 1.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Little River are in themselves reasons enough to come     here to paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Briefly about the general area: Here at Little River you'll probably meet some people from Bahama, and Little River is next to Eno River State Park which is a beautiful spot. The high level of precipitation makes Little River a reasonably wet location. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest of the months is April. For the duration of the days of summer highs here at Little River get into the 80's; the nighttime is a bit cooler of course, regularly in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Little River drop into the 20's.
