Your map is lacking a few details. Input point is close enough for people to find. Your takeout point does not correspond to the title of this stretch of river. It should be at the public access point where the New River goes under the Hwy 58 bridge. That stretch is about a 5 hour trip in itself.
We often put in at the Hwy 58 bridge and take out at a public access |
point just past where Elk Creek enters the New. That is about where Hwy 94 takes a northward right turn as detailed on your map. There is no public access area at the Carrico Bridge on 94. Although I do see people using
| that area on occasion. This stretch is about a 3-4 hour trip. Says Pat Murphy
The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down New River will make you feel great. The starting point is not too far from North Wilkesboro, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these | |
|
hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge
Mountains is a great experience. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. Some people prefer whitewater
rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too.
