  The Route 1347 to Mouth of Wilson section of New River - South Fork in Watauga/ Ashe/ Alleghany County is 61 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. Getting some good exercise and a chance
    to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The put-in location is a short drive from North Wilkesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The nature scenery of North  
Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
A trip to New River State Park when you're here at New River - South Fork is a magnificent idea; there is a delightful hiking trail nearby called the First Peak Trail. If you want a delightful time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Going to Mount Jefferson State Park near New River - South Fork is a good thing to do, and you're sure to stumble upon some cheerful people from Mouth Of Wilson here.
